THE BEDRICH STRING QUARTET
Original Programming
Founded in 2002 in Paris, the Bedrich Quartet is composed of four musicians from diverse backgrounds who are committed to using their varied experiences to serve an eclectic and original repertoire. A key aspect of their work is the defense of the art of transcription and arrangement, which allows the Bedrich Quartet to offer audiences a chance to discover musical treasures from other instrumental forms—piano, symphonic, vocal, and more—while building bridges with the great string quartet repertoire. In addition to traditional concert formats, the Bedrich String Quartet has created numerous productions combining their art with other forms, such as dance, mime, painting, and cinema.
Some of these creations, including “Words & Notes” (storytelling), “Death and the Maiden” (Buto dance), and “Moon Shivers” (Haikus and Japanese calligraphy), have led them to perform on renowned stages in France and Europe (Cité de la Musique, BNF, Avignon Festival, BOZAR in Brussels, Arsenal of Metz…).
Sharing Knowledge…
The Bedrich Quartet has always shown a strong interest in pedagogy, notably through collaborations with the Jeunesses Musicales de France (JMF) on original programs (“Baroque’n Roll”, 2009). In 2023, the Creteil Conservatory in Paris area invited the Bedrich String Quartet for a chamber music masterclass with their advanced students.
A Discography Off the Beaten Path
In 2016, the Bedrich String Quartet released its first album, “Interrupted Serenades”, a series of arrangements from French piano, choral, and symphonic works from the turn of the 20th century (1875–1930): Bizet, Fauré, Debussy, Ravel, Satie, Poulenc… The album received high praise from the media upon release (L’Obs, Classica, France Musique, Record Geijutsu in Japan).
In 2019, the Quartet recorded their second CD entitled “Minstrels”, a sort of traveling ball in the same spirit as their debut, featuring many original arrangements alongside the powerful rhythms of Ginastera’s First Quartet (France Musique).
In 2025, they are releasing a third CD entitled “Empfindung”, a tribute to the great masters of German Romanticism, featuring Beethoven’s “Harp” Quartet op.74, original arrangements of Schubert Lieder, and Mendelssohn’s Songs Without Words.
Contemporary Music
The Bedrich String Quartet regularly performs and records with artists from the contemporary music scene, jazz, independent rock, and beyond (Fred Pallem - Le Sacre du Tympan, Asa, Eric Antoine, Soviet Suprem…).
In France and Beyond
The Bedrich String Quartet is frequently invited to perform or record at prestigious venues in France and abroad, including the Avignon Festival, the Cité de la Musique in Paris, the BNF, the Paris City Hall, the CND in Albi, the Arsenal in Metz, BOZAR in Brussels, the Vielklang Festival in Tübingen, Germany, and in June 2023, at Suntory Hall in Tokyo. A Japan Tour is schedules for the summer 2025 in Tokyo and Osaka, under the high patronage of the French Embassy.
